This page is a quick review of the Inquiry Process.
- First is this basic chart as provided in McGraw Hill's 'iWonder' series. These are the basic steps you are expected to follow during your inquiry. Review what is expected of you.
- The MOST important aspect of inquiry is creating a question on a subject that genuinely interests you. See the section below the chart to help you create an effective Inquiry question.
The following ideas are taken from McGraw Hill's "iWonder: an Inquiry-Based Anthology" series published in 2016.
GOOD INQUIRY QUESTIONS GUIDE
An inquiry works best when the question you start with meets the following criteria:
1. The topic of the question is relevant and important to you.
2. The question is open ended - ie. you can't answer the question with a simple 'yes' or 'no'.
3. The question is connected to one of the BIG ideas found in the curriculum for your course.
4. The question is genuinely important and serious. We live in a world of issues and problems; engaging in frivilous questions is beneath your intelligence. Think smart; be smart.
5. If you already know the answer to your question, move on and stop wasting your time and that of your teacher.
6. If you cannot find enough information and resources to answer your question, revise or create a new question -- remember - one that is of interest and is important to you.
GOOD RESPONSE TO INQUIRY QUESTIONS CRITERIA
1. Your answer speaks directly to your question. -- you may have to revise your question as you go along.
2. Your answer clearly demonstrates a new understanding of the topic on your part.
3. Make sure the presentation of your inquiry question (essay, poster, powerpoint, oral presentation, etc.) follows the proper and prescribed format expected by your teacher.
